Manchester is a township in southeastern New Jersey that was formed from land formerly in Dover Township (now Toms River Township). The population is about 50,000 and includes Lakehurst Naval Air Station, the scene of the famed Hindenburg disaster.  This township in Ocean County is mostly suburban and includes portions of New Jersey's Pine Barrens.

The Township is in southern New Jersey just inland from Toms River.  New Jersey's Pine Barrens run through the area. The average July high is 86. The average January high is 40 and the low is 22. The wettest month is August with 4.5 inches of rainfall.

Some of the established 55+ communities have cultural programs. Otherwise you might go to Toms River, New York City, or Atlantic City for your cultural kicks.

Manchester Township has a low crime rate.

This area has  a wide array of hospitals, rehab facilities, nursing homes, and medical professionals - all due to the presence of so many retirees. Toms River, Manahawkin, and Little Egg Harbor all have health care resources.

Transportation

The Garden State Parkway runs through or close to Manchester Township. Philadelphia International and Newark are the closest big airports (where Amtrak is also available).
